It's Craft Beer Week!

Yeah. So what? Every week is craft beer week for me! How about you? I know several craft beer bars and Brewpubs are running some sort of special. Call or check their web sites. Expect to see a lot of craft beer articles in the press, some good and some boring. If you see the quote "Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy" attributed to Benjamin Franklin in an article, stop reading. The author is guilty of journalistic malpractice since this quote is fictitious and easily verified via Google. It makes you wonder where they are getting their information and research for the article. East Nashville's 3 Crow Bar even has a nicely made sign with this quote above the tap handles...sigh! I really wish they would at least cover Franklin's name to prevent any further misquoting.

Beers from Stoudt's Brewery will be arriving in Nashville bottle shops by early June. Like Victory, they are based in eastern PA and brew some very solid beers. Stoudt's Pilsener will be a very nice addition to Nashville's improving selection of domestic Pilseners (Victory Prima Pils, Sam Adams Noble Pils, Brooklyn, etc.) I also recommend their Pale Ale as well.

On May 24 at 6pm, Flying Saucer will be hosting a Terrapin Beer Dinner. The event will be hosted by Brian “Spike” Buckowski, founder and brewmaster at Athens, Ga.-based Terrapin, and will feature seven beers accompanied by a three-course dinner. Dinner will include a fresh buffalo mozzarella salad, followed by an entrĂ©e of smoked chicken on wild rice and accompanying sauce and a dessert of chocolate mousse with fresh berries. Featured beers include Terrapin’s SunRay Wheat Beer, Rye Pale Ale, Hopsecutioner, Hop Karma Brown IPA, Monk’s Revenge Belgian-Style IPA, Rye Squared and Capt’n Krunkles Black IPA. Tickets for the event can be purchased at Flying Saucer and are $30 for U.F.O. Club members and $35 for non-members. Reservations are required as tickets are limited.

It's that time of year when Sierra Nevada Southern Hemisphere Harvest Wet Hop Ale is on the shelves for a limited time. Expect to pay around $5 per 22 ounce bottle, and the fresher the better.

That's it for now. Time to open a craft beer and hopefully you are doing the same. And no...Blue Moon (brewed by Coors) does not count.

cheers
